Centenary event on the 13th of June
An update from us about next month, and a message from the NNT committee
Chances are that, by now, some of you might have received an invitation to celebrate “The Centenary of the Nottingham New Theatre” at Lakeside Arts Centre on Saturday the 13th of June.
It’s being organised by the current NNT students and we are doing all we can to support them. Matthew Bannister is taking part on behalf of the Save NNT Campaign, and will use the platform to draw attention to the vital importance of the New Theatre in the life of the University.
Tickets for the event are available here, and all proceeds from the event will be invested into the NNT.
…just one small problem
Of course, this centenary is not that of the New Theatre Building (which only came into use in the late 1960s), but instead marks one hundred years since the first formation of a Drama Society at the University.
It is of course upsetting that these celebrations can’t take place in the New Theatre Building itself. This is a point that Matthew intends to make forcefully from the Lakeside stage.
A message from the NNT committee
“While the New Theatre of today looks very different to that of 100 years ago, we remain driven by our unwavering resilience in the face of adversity. With the loss of our building, demonstrating to the university the strength of our community becomes all the more crucial.
In this vein, the Nottingham New Theatre is excited to be producing a Gala celebrating 100 years of student theatre, hosted at the Lakeside Arts Centre on Saturday 13th June.
This event strives to honor the NNT’s rich history of achievement, featuring a curated archive of NNT materials. The Gala will also showcase our more recent student excellence, taking scenes from recent NNT productions to the Lakeside stage. Priced at £35, the ticket also includes a catered buffet and a free drink upon entry.
All proceeds from this event will be invested into the development of the New Theatre, as we strive to build a community that can last another 100 years.”

If you’re coming along, please come and find us
We’d love to see as many people as possible at the event to show to the University just how much the New Theatre means to us.
If you can make it, we look forward to seeing you there.
