I was the President of the New Theatre between 1998/9 and associated with it throughout my time at Notts Uni. I oversaw a campaign to raise £80k to refurbish the theatre (at the time a very large amount of money indeed). The New Theatre was the reason I chose Nottingham. We need to foster in young people the energy, dynamism and passion which theatre can offer. The university authorities need to channel the passion which our former VC Colin Campbell personified when I asked his help to transform the building all those years ago.
